2021 movie #140. 1991. The movie that successfully bridged the gap between the original series and "Star Trek: Next Generation" that was already on TV. Christopher Plummer is great as the Shakespeare quoting Klingon general. ( )
If not a contender for favorite among the Trek films, this was still a decent send off for the characters of the original series. I admit I can't quite forgive this film for how incompetent it makes some of the characters though. McCoy clueless in the face of a wounded Klingon, Uhura looking through a hardcover Klingon dictionary, Kirk a bitter bigot--at least at first. And I'm sorry they decided not to give Saavik her intended role and created Valeris instead. (Even if I understand why they didn't want to go with yet a third actress in the role) that could have made for a powerful film. Yet our aging crew somehow muddles through--and I'm glad to see them save the day one more time. ( )
