No Biting is an adorable children’s book that many children will love. I enjoyed this book for multiple reasons. Children will never say no to a lift-the-flap book like this and will get extremely upset if they aren’t they ones to lift it first. I like that this book is a lift-the-flap book because not many are, and it adds more excitement to reading the book. The next reason why I like this book is because the lessons it teaches young children. On each left hand-side of the page, there stands a rule that children must follow. Such rules include “No biting your friends!” or “No spitting at your brother!” Then, on the right hand-side of the page there is a flap that you lift up that explains to you what you can bite or what you can spit. You can bite into apples, and you can spit when you brush your teeth. I believe that you can truly teach children through their reading such as this book does. Lastly, I really liked the illustrations that were put throughout this book. As stated, on every left hand-side of the page there is a rule, and on the right-hand-side there is an illustration showing that rule being broken. When the flap is lifted, you see what you can do instead of disobeying the rule. For example, when the bold letters “No kicking the dog!” are written, the picture illustrates a young boy kicking a dog. When you lift the flap, you see the boy doing what he should be doing instead, which is kicking a ball. This books idea is to teach students right from wrong, as well as saying NO to things such as hitting and biting and pushing, and YES to having fun! ( )

Karen Katz's delightful illustrations accompany this book about negative behaviors that are all too commonly found in young children, including hitting and biting. Each negative behavior gets a stern "no" before it and the page lifts up to show a positive behavior the child could do instead. For instance, at one point it reads "No pushing in line! What can you push?" The reader then lifts up the full page illustration of a child pushing in line to reveal an alternate picture of the same child pushing a swing. This is definitely a good book to accompany talks and positive guidance for infants and young toddlers who may be exploring their world in inappropriate ways that lead to hurtful behaviors. However, if you're looking for something to help aggressive children find a more positive way to channel said aggression, a different book geared more toward older toddlers and preschoolers with that problem is more appropriate.
