This book is intertwined. John Earl, a fan of John Muir attempts to retrace John Muir's walk from Kentucky to Florida. As John Earl starts the walk he realizes that he cannot walk footstep by footstep in John Muir's shoes. Partly because of changes in his path direction, but mainly because it is impossible to do. Walking in someone else shoes never gets you the same results. John Earl came up with a new plan. Find places along the route that John Muir encountered. Using text from John Muir's own writing-John Muir's "Thousand Mile Walk to the Gulf" you understand John Muir. A man who is moved by god to see what has been created but does not want to be amongst people for too long of a time. Some of the people that he meets, tests his faith but he comes to a sense of peace with his life. He filters the life less chosen against others who question his lifestyle. At the end of the book, I was rattled and shaken to my core. We should all stop and take in the world around us to help us find the peace that at times seems to elude us.
