Prince Colin lives a lie. He’s in love with Drake the Dragon Ryder, but is supposed to be engaged to the charming and well-connected Princess Estrella.

His father is dangerous, and demands absolute obedience, but on the night of his twenty-first birthday and announcement of his engagement, Drake changes everything.

This was a cute and easy read, but I felt like I was missing a prequel. Drake and Colin have already been intimate for years, and there’s mention of the King’s abuse, but we don’t see it and the story basically takes place in a couple of days. I enjoyed it, but honestly felt like it was too brief. I was completely intrigued with the Dragons, and the land where they live. I almost wanted more from the dragons than the people.

This slight book would have benefited from being fleshed out more, as there were aspects of the story that were not fully explained, leaving a lot of holes in the plot. There are a lot of convenient plot points that were resolved too quickly for my tastes. Still, it is a quick, light read - good for a relaxing summer's day. (
