I really like that this book not only teaches readers about how something was invented, it also teaches the reader to look at items from different perspectives. For example, there was a poem called "Two Puzzling" which talked about two people working on two different puzzles. One person might start from the inside and work their way out, while the other person might start from the outside and work their way in. This specific poem didn't talk about how puzzles were made, but it does cover a different way of thinking about puzzles. Although we have probably noticed that everyone has a different method to solving a puzzle, we never actually thought about it that in depth. The poem makes you think a little about the concept and our own experiences. Therefore, it is very thought provoking. It is a great way to keep the reader entertained and interested in reading more.

Another thing I liked about the book was the use of poems that did focus on how things were created or how the concepts came about. For example, there was a very descriptive poem about Ferris Wheels. Although it didn't talk about the construction of the Ferris Wheel, it talked about the concept of people riding around in a circle by going up into the sky and back towards the ground rather than round and round on the ground only. These poems are interesting and teach you a little about the history of each of the inventions. I would have never thought to learn about puzzles, a Ferris Wheel, or any of the other things that the book talked about, but it was different and I learned a lot. Therefore, other readers probably learn a lot too.

Everyone can tell that this book is about inventions, but it has an underlying message. This message is to take time to appreciate the little things. Although a puzzle is a great activity to do, no one really thinks too much about it. The same thing goes for the Ferris Wheel. No one takes the time to appreciate that these things were invented or how they were invented. No one shows their appreciation other than playing with the puzzles or riding the Ferris Wheels. It takes a lot more than just using something. Therefore, we all need to remember to do that more often. ( )

The poems in this collection were all related in some way to inventions that would be interesting for children. For example there is a poem about the invention of the first straw, which was actually made out of paper. The poems were whimsical and fun, and the art work that accompanied them helped to set the tone for each piece.
