April Pulley Sayre uses onamonapias and word repetition throughout this book to engage the reader. The words honk, hee-honk, honk are used to describe the father goose protecting his eggs and young chicks. The words splash, splash are italicized to emphasize the geese taking their bath. Crack, cracked, and peep are used to demonstrate the sounds the eggs make when the chicks are hatching. Huy Voun Lee uses bright and lifelike illustrations throughout the book to draw the reader in. This book is a great mentor text with a beautiful message of family, protection, and love. ( ) This was a fun story about 2 geese starting a family. The illustrations were simple, but full of color. I thought it was an interesting decision to explicitly say "Then they mated." in a children's book and to have a Racoon break one of the unhatched eggs. Overall, I thought it was a lovely book and I liked the ending when the Father Goose, on alert for danger, breaks the fourth wall and HONKS! at the reader. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
