This is a cute story about two boys becoming friends at the park. It seemed mean but at first, Jake did not want to play with Tom. I am sure that Jake was afraid of seeing Tom in the chair. After encouragement from his father, Jake decides to go and talk to Tom. When he does he finds out that they have similar interests and Tom is pretty awesome. I like that the book showed what Tom can do even though he was unable to walk and run. It also showed that he is a kid just like his peers. I thought it was great that Jake helped Tom to get on and off the merry-go-round. It was also nice that Tom wins in a race every time considering Jake didn't think that could happen. ( ) This book is a sweet tale of two characters becoming friends and finding common ground despite the differences they have. Jake meets a new friend Tom on a trip to the park, and he believes that since Tom is in a wheelchair, they will not have anything they can do together. However, he soon realizes that Tom can do all the things that Jake wants to do; he just needs a little bit of assistance from a friend. It teaches the important message of not always acting upon your first thoughts, but getting to know someone better before passing judgment. I believe this book will be relatable to younger students in pre-k and kindergarten because it will resonate with them on a personal level. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
