Somehow, I was disappointed in this book. The writing style never really clicked; one also never really got a good feel for some of the individuals in the book, since the writing tended to skip over them as people. Churchill's cousin Sunny, for example, doesn't really get a great deal of coverage. There's more about the disposal of some of the treasures of Blenheim Palace than some of the people. And for that matter, I think the biography of Winston Churchill (which takes up a good 1/3rd of the book) is superficial. One supposes that would be the case, considering he was still alive at the time the book came out, but I wasn't really satisfied with how the man was treated. I can't honestly recommend this book. [EDIT: I re-read this book, and I'm a bit more charitable toward it, so I bumped it from 3 to 4 stars.] ( )
