Far from the glittering lights and 24/7 spectacle of the Strip, the Las Vegas Crime Lab's team of investigators is gearing up for a rough night ahead.... A brutal shooting at a cheap motel may be business as usual for CSIs Catherine Willows and Nick Stokes, but as they process the crime scene and quickly identify the victim as a noted local private investigator, nothing could prepare them for the shock of finding physical evidence belonging to none other than Detective Jim Brass.... Meanwhile, CSIs Greg Sanders and Riley Adams are called to a nearby airport where they must face the ultimate locked room mystery: how a pilot flying solo in a small private plane wound up murdered while miles above the ground.... The author seemed to have a solid grasp of the characters, though he didn't have to write who I think is the most complex character, Grissom. Still, I was really impressed with how he wrote Riley. I saw the same subtle subtext that I saw on the show present in the book too.
There were four stories. A dead body at an airport, a pit full of animal bones, a dead body in a motel and two different missing women.
The stories were weaved together nicely, though I did think that the author overemphasized the whole 'oh woe is me I'm in charge and have so much to do' Catherine Willows bit too much, but, it was a minor part of the book.
As a whole it was one of the better CSI novels I've read, it balanced a nice few mystery stories with the actual CSI show. A solid 4 stars. ( )
