Photographic Essay
Wilcox book outlines how we deal with trash, revealing where it all ends up. Landfills and dumps are thoroughly explained, as well as alternative options for discarding solid waste. Wilcox declares recycling as our best option at the end of the book. The book has great pictures and diagrams, as well as a short glossary. While some of the practices described in the book are still in use today, much of the book is outdated.
This book could be used as a reference for a report on trash, but really doesn’t hold much more value than that. Trash! does contain important information that puts where our waste actually goes into perspective, but it’s hard to imagine that most kids would find it very engaging. ( )
