Bagge''s comic strip opinion pieces for Reason magazine for the last several years are collected in Everybody is Stupid Except For Me. Although a libertarian by inclination, Bagge is hardly dogmatic, and many of the pieces undermine traditional party lines in favor of a personal, rational and informed take on hot-button issues. Bagge's well-researched comic strip "essay" topics include the erosion of our civil liberties, ongoing boondoggles of the American public, the Iraq war, so-called art and so-called entertainment, the homeless, politicians both in general and in particular (including the 2008 presidential race and a revelatory one-on-one with Republican not-so-hopeful Ron Paul), and whether citizens should be allowed to own bazookas.… (meer)

Peter Bagge is kind of a horrible piece of human garbage. Reads like a privileged middle-aged entitled white dude. Can't help it though, love that art.

Like many on the Left, I respect and enjoy Peter Bagge's art and humor, but not always his politics. His denouncements of many public services and his stance against gun control fly in the face of my beliefs. On the other hand, his Libertarian views on sex and drugs are refreshing in our puritanical, hypocritical society. With great candor and wit, Bagge tackles all these issues and more in Everybody Is Stupid Except for Me, a collection of his strips from Reason Magazine. As in his previous works like Hate and The Bradleys, Bagge deftly manages to simultaneously anger and amuse the reader with his intensely personal stories about larger topical issues. ( )

(Alistair) So, when I saw this advertised, I almost had to buy it.

Everyone Is Stupid Except For Me is a collection of Peter Bagge's comic-format reportage and opinions for Reason magazine, and since a libertarian opinion in editorial cartoonage (even though this is not, strictly, editorial cartoonage; more like journalistic cartoonage), even in those political comic strips which I like, it was a natural fit.

Fortunately, I did. It's funny and pointed and observant, both amusing and informing even when I don't agree, and the author is, as the Washington Post reviewer points out in the blurb, not afraid to skewer himself when he deserves it.

Recommended. Oh, and to leave off with another quotation from that particular blurb:

"As libertarian polemicists go, he's a lot more fun than Ayn Rand."

Ouch, man.
