Lily just wants an acceptable date for her sister's engagement party. Unfortunately the lawyer she has in mind is not taking the bait. Magic to the rescue. With a magical Harvey Wallbanger, she ensures he will adore her. What could possibly go wrong? ( ) It was hard to get attached to this book for its first half because, while the writing style was both quirky and fun, there was too much pointless sex. I didn't know the characters long enough to invest excitement in their bedroom play...and too much sex without enough story and action becomes dull fast. The book finally started taking off with actual story though, and it had saving graces of being genuinely amusing, cute without sappy, a unique formula plot-wise, and a genuinely "magical" happy ending. When it was over and done with I felt great for having read it, even if during the first part it was too easy to put it down and forget about it. The writing style is great, talented author, so I will keep trying more of her stuff. Chick with a Charm was definitely the "fun and steamy" read that I was looking for. Lily concocts a love elixir based on the devotion and adoration qualities of her magical golden retriever, Daisy. Once finished, Lily places the elixir in her crush's (Griffin's) Harvey Wallbanger -- and presto -- he's hooked. The book quickly turns into the stereotypical romance novel (it was a bit risqué at times, but who doesn't love that occasionally?). As the days pass, Lily develops genuine feelings for Griffin, which in turn adds to her guilt and questioning, "Would he act like this if he wasn't under the influence of the love/devotion elixir?" Better than the first of the Babes on Brooms books, mainly because in this one the responsibility seems to be more correctly assigned to both protagonists: Lily deliberately placed a spell on Griffin to interfere with his free will, Griffin just isn't willing enough to take risks. It's clear from as soon as the spell is cast that Lily's going to have more to atone for, but also that both faults will be dealt with appropriately, whereas in Blonde with a Wand, Anica seemed to be assigned a lot more guilt for an impulsive act than Jasper did for being a jerk on a regular basis. The only major flaw of Chick with a Charm is far too many nonmagical people with no particular interest in the paranormal to be far too ready to accept the existance of honest to goodness magical witches without so much as a "You mean wiccans, right?" geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
