This story follows high school student, Xoe Meyers, and her two friends, Lucy and Allison. When she meets Dan, the new “cute” boy in school she's excited to find out he's attracted to Lucy, even though Allison is also interested in him. They all go out to a movie but Dan acts strangely to Xoe and says she's not human. Then he “scratches” Lucy and we discover he's a werewolf. Enter Jason, the vampire who was hired to hunt down Dan and falls for Xoe.

The story was a little slow getting started but it really picked up pace with many twists and turns as well as the appripriate teen angst. It captures the supernatural theme in a much better way than other books of similar style. The supernatural elements were well-paced and intriguing. I thought the book would be a typical teen werewolves versus teen vampires sort of story, but it was different and interesting. I read it for the X title and am not in the target demographic but Xoe was fun, witty, and an enjoyable beginning to this Young Adult series.

Very, very entertaining for a book I chose so I could finish a reading challenge. Will be getting the second one to read. ( )

An alright book with some great concepts but how the parents were written just blew the whole thing for me. I know they were not whole complete characters in the book but I still felt that they should not have been so contradictory. ( )
