Deputy Chief Inspector C. D. Sloan and Constable Crosby, add in portentous omens and an enigmatic English Maze at the center of the plot, and we have a good, fast summer afternoon read. Crosby always good for a chuckle, Sloan for insight into detection, and Aird's nicely written fiction must be labeled, as always, enjoyable. ( )
Reasonably good procedural mystery. Crosby and Sloan are always fun, but there's nothing special about this book. Solidly three stars, no more no less, and a very quick read. ( )
