A kid who gets mysterious shoes with special powers tries to find ways to use them for good. He also solves problems using brain power. I like that his mom went to community college and got a better job and that homework is important. I love that the main character is Latino. ( ) This story follows the adventures of a young boy, Freddie, who finds super-powered shoes that give him inhuman speed on his front porch one day. He discovers what it is - and what it takes - to be a hero. This is a cute book and a great one for beginning/intermediate readers. The few words in Spanish both establish Freddie as Hispanic and serve as good practice for teaching young readers to use context to discern the meaning of unfamiliar words. Uses: I would definitely have this book and others in the series in my library if I were teaching 3rd or 4th grade. It is a fun and engaging story, and it peaks the interest of boys and girls alike - since a lot of children's books tend to be aimed at girls. this is a cute lil chapter book. it's a great way to introduce chapter books to elementary readers. it still has illustrations that ca help explain the story. also like the mystery aspect of the story. and there were was mention of military life and not lying to parents and how important school is and some other themes as well. all packed into a lil book. this is a cute lil chapter book. it's a great way to introduce chapter books to elementary readers. it still has illustrations that ca help explain the story. also like the mystery aspect of the story. and there were was mention of military life and not lying to parents and how important school is and some other themes as well. all packed into a lil book. this is a cute lil chapter book. it's a great way to introduce chapter books to elementary readers. it still has illustrations that ca help explain the story. also like the mystery aspect of the story. and there were was mention of military life and not lying to parents and how important school is and some other themes as well. all packed into a lil book. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
