Despite all the airtime devoted to Amanda Knox, it's still hard to reconcile the fresh-faced honor student from Seattle with the sexually rapacious killer convicted of the November 2007 murder of her British roommate. Few Americans have heard all of the powerful evidence that convinced a jury that Knox was one of three people to sexually assault Meredith Kercher, brutalize her body, and cut her throat. In Angel Face, Rome-based Daily Beast senior writer Barbie Latza Nadeau -- who cultivated personal relationships with the key figures in both the prosecution and the defense -- describes how the Knox family's heavy-handed efforts to control media coverage distorted the facts, inflamed an American audience, and painted an offensive, inaccurate picture of Italy's justice system. Not sure why this has had so many terrible reviews. It want that bad, if you consider it was written by a journalist. The case was discussed in detail and the facts delivered. It is only during the latter half of the book that the author's opinion becomes apparent. The reader is still given enough impartial evidence to judge for themselves in my opinion. I found this an interesting read, pretty quick to get through, and well structured. You can read around the author's opinion so it is not that bad. There were a few self plugs where the author drops into first person which can be read a self promotion but still, an objective reader can overlook these to see them as annoying points to be disregarded. The later half of the book does tend to get caught up in the court room dramas and judgemental slanging matches between families and media, but like a said, it was written by a journalist so there is bound to be this kind of juicy material thrown in. Despite this, I would recommend. ( )
