Blake is an asshole, his change of heart appears from nowhere. Parker is not well-defined.

Beautiful One was chosen for my May Dusty Bookshelf read through The Challenge Factory.

This story is told in third person through the eyes of both Kallistos a playwright, and Alexios, a shepherd boy striving to be an actor.

Beautiful One is a love story between Kallistos and Alexios during the Great Dionysia, or City Dionysia, festival in Athens. It plays out over approximately four days, so the story is not long, but it packs a lot into a very few days, and is to me, an appropriate length for the story.

Kallistos is a shy, but very talented playwright. He comforts himself with the writing of his plays never believing that he will find someone to love him, or for him to love. Because of certain mechanizations by Sophocles, his playwright rival, Kallistos meets Alexios. Spending time together, Kallistos falls in love with Alexios and has reason to hope that they can have a future together, until he finds out Alexios’s secret.

Alexios is an ambitious shepherd boy who desires to become an actor. He makes a deal with Sophocles to sabotage Kallistos’s plays in order to become and actor in Sophocles’s plays, only he doesn’t take into account what a kind and gentle person Kallistos is. Soon, Alexios finds himself falling in love with him. Now, he needs to confess to Kallistos what he was hired to do.

I liked how the author slowly built the tension of the two falling in love, Kallistos’s hesitancy to open himself up to Alexios and how he blossomed when he finally did. Some may find the story slow-paced, but I found it appropriate for this story and what event was taking place. I also loved how the author played out the discovery of what Alexios did to Kallistos and what happened when Alexios confronted Kallistos.

The one other thing I loved was the small symbolism of Aphrodite’s white dove of love that showed up very early in the story. It would periodically show up at appropriate times to Alexios and Kallistos. Alexios didn’t believe in the gods and he got Kallistos to question the things he was taught, so the fact that despite their beliefs, the white dove still showed up, was very interesting.
Even though this was a fast, short read, I think the length suited the story. It was easy to read without stilted historical grammar, there were few errors and I enjoyed the MC’s. I give this story 5 Stars

Perfect

Myths & Magic was the perfect blend of authors. Although each book was different and unique they all blended together. A must read for the person who likes reading about Myths & Magic LOL

A story for everyone

This charity anthology has a story for everyone; whether you like shifters, same-sex, mature or historical, you will find something to enjoy. Two dozen stories, and almost as many variations of second chances. This was a bit of a rush job and it shows in the need for editing, some tales more than others. My favourite stories include Aria Bliss' Renewing Hearts, part of her Watercress Falls series, and CK O'Connor's Once Burned, Twice Loved, appealing for Bake Off fans. I should also mention Lia Davis, Linzi Baxter, and RC Wynne, and for me, these five stories more than justified the cost.

Oh my, I absolutely love, love, love this book. This was a really strong start to this series. I had never read this author before so I was curious what her take on the shifter phenomenon was. It seems like it could be the start of a real strong storyline. Although, from what I could tell, even though you get Griff’s story in this book, it seems to be more about setting the scene for the “big picture.” I will be picking up the next book in the series because I want to see if that is a correct thought process. As a standalone, it was still a good book. I want to see what this author is going to bring to the table later. This book has the makings of an addictive series, so we will find out.

3.5 stars. Good overall. The heroine was a bit too naive IMO but it didn't ruin the book

A solid start to a new bear paranormal series. There were a few issues -- excessive stubborness bordering on stupidity for the heroine, sex scenes that were a bit glossed over, but a great storyline, likeable characters (that could have used a little more development) and enough fodder for several stories. The secondary characters could have used more fleshing - they are shadows.

Amy Francis has finally freed herself from an abusive boyfriend and a ultra demanding job in Atlanta and has headed to upstate New York to finally have a fresh start. So she finds herself an amazing cabin in Deep Creek, that is simply perfect for her and it not bad that her landlord is divine too! But Amy is just trying to get her life and soul back on track, not lust after Griff Martin!

Griff Martin was more than just Amy's landlord or the Park Ranger! Griff was a bear shifter, whose family were brutally murdered when he was a child, but now he was a defender for his clan and determined to protect Deep Creek for them, especially with a shifter war approaching with the Lion pack! And a Lion who blaimed him for the death of his parents. But the last thing Griff expected was to find out that his new tenant Amy was his mate!

Now Griff has gain Amy's trust and love before he can tell her that she is his mate! Not to mention tell her that he is a bear, all the while keeping her safe from the Lion that wants him dead!

As you know I'm a HUGE bear shifter fan and I simply HAD to read the first book of this new series that sounded so fantastic! And believe me I was not disappointed by this book! The writing was smooth and gripping. The plot was intense, detailed and I'm pleased to say, has a little twist to the typical shifter book. I loved Griff character and he certainly lives up to his name! But despite his gruff exterior, he has a soft heart when it comes to Amy. I felt such empathy for Amy's character in the beginning, not only has she lost a friend (the friend hooked up with Amy's ex), but to be so rejected by her parents just truly breaks my heart.

By the time I was done with Griff and Amy's story, I had a bad book hangover and was desperate for the next book! Which is why I gave Waking the Bear 4 stars!

... a new story

When ex ad agency executive, Amy Francis took off to the wilderness of Deep Creek to find herself in her painting and relax in the mountains as she determined her next move, she little knew that she was stepping into a turf war between two groups of shape shifters--bears and mountain lions.
What she did know was that she was attracted to a gentile giant of a hunk--park ranger Griff Martin and also her landlord.
She didn't know about soul mates and that Griff was hers.
Now she finds herself in the midst of the drama, being literally pawed over by Griff's arch enemy, and lion shifter, Evers.
Romance and intrigue pepper the story.
As paranormal books go, this is somewhat cliched but an ok read.

A NetGalley ARC

Kerry Adrienne gives you a quick glimpse into Egypt's past while giving you a romance that is....not of this world in Pharoah, Mine.

I have read several of the 1Night Stand books, and to be honest they only disappoint in that they are so short. Honestly, I would love to have these developed as I want to know more. This is one that, to me, is one of the best that could be taken into a full novel and wouldn't disappoint readers at all.

The characters are very unique. In a way, they are not that developed but only because the book is so short. You can see that there is so much more to them that you just can't see in these few pages. Ms. Adrienne writes in a way that has you wanting to know more about them.

The plot again is something that is intriguing and has you wanting more. I know it sounds like I'm harping on the shortness of the story, but this one could be much more developed out into a full novel! The story has so much going for it. Though in a sense as a novella it works as it has me thinking about all the possibilities.

This is a romance/erotica book though I'm glad the intimate scenes aren't too many. They compliment the story instead of being the story. That is great. There is only one episode of an F-bomb that I can remember and several direct words in the intimate scenes.

This read will not take you long. It is short much to my chagrin. :) If you are interested in this genre, you really have to check this book out. You should only be disappointed as I am in that it is too short.
