- Mary Eleanor Allan, known as Mea, wrote a series of popular studies of famous English Botanists. She is best known for her work and life of William and Joseph Hooker and their families (1967), and the botanical studies of Charles Darwin (1977). She also wrote on the effect of the introduction of plants on British gardens. Her last study on William Robinson, a "natural gardener" at Kew, was published just before her death in 1982 in Walberswick, Suffolk, UK.
