Stuart Arden

I just finished Stuart Arden’s book, SENSE AND NONSENSE: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE ARAB-ISRAELI CONFLICT. Mr. Arden was a freelance director in the Arabic Department of Israel Television’s Channel 1 for 15 years and a teacher.
Mr. Arden is not particularly anti-Arab and is quite respectful of many Arab people and events. He does want to set his readers straight, however, on many, many facts pertaining to the Arab-Israeli situation.
Besides the 35 chapters (and chapter notes), there is an afterword, an extensive bibliography and a very helpful index.
The bibliography includes references to books and journals, presidential papers, letters and encyclopedias. There are also extensive Biblical quotes and passages throughout the book.

My brain is reeling. I have taken so many notes and highlighted so many passages that I seem to have created my own book!
Let’s start with chapter 1.
Chapter 1 is entitled ‘False-tinians’. “To call someone a Palestinian is to presuppose that there is a country called Palestine - which of course there is not.”
“The name Palestine has only been officially used 3 times in history, always with geographic, not nationalistic connotations.”

I would rather you read this book and take your own notes and come to your own conclusions rather than read mine.
I did come away from this title with a heightened sense of incredulity about many people and groups, in particular the British Foreign Office and the United Nations.… (meer)
