Great new voice in paranormal fiction!

I for one LOVED this book! What a unique take on a paranormal tale. Not the typical supernatural story. Magic is alive and well. As with all things in life there's good and bad. When someone dies, whether naturally or killed a piece of them or shard goes into whoever killed them, or if not murdered into the next family member. These shards are parts of the person. One can inherit magical powers such as becoming psychic or fading away into shadows so nobody notices you. Not everyone who inherits these shards is aware. Some shards are like voices in your head, others can take over like another personality all together. Some are there to help, or for the good fight while others can turn the kindest soul into a murderer without them being aware. This fight has endured for ages....there are people on both sides of the fight searching for vessels (people who knowingly or not, inherited said shards) to help explain what's happening. But also to help further their side of this fight. This book does a brilliant job of setting up this world and the people within it. Cleo lost her beloved mother years ago unexpectedly. From the day she was born her mother saw on her 25th birthday Cleo would meet two men and death would appear. Like with most visions they're open to interpretation. A psychic herself she now lives with her honorary aunt Dolores that was her mother's best friend. Her aunt could speak to the dead. Having lost her own children and husband to murder, she was determined that Cleo would survive. Her 25th birthday is upon them, and boy oh boy were her mother's words about to come true. Thinking she's just psychic, Cleo has no clue about shards or that world. Things are about to change! Prophecy, adventure, intrigue, deception, family and most of all love...all of these are major themes in this exciting book! I can't wait to devour the next in this series!!
