I love the character's perspective! Set in the time of the Irish Potato Famine, Esty finds a way to rescue her family from their circumstances in Ireland by setting sail for Australia in search of gold.

The main character is a boy.

A rather predicatable boy inherits spooky location and then on a dark and stormy night strange things begin to happen. At the end everything is ok.
That said this is a well told and constructed story with little waste but plenty to draw you into the tale.

A story about Dorcas who lives in Dublin after the Blast. Society has gone to pot and gangs roam the streets trying to stay alive and take whatever food they can find. Pretty standard fare for this type of book. Most of it's interest is in following the action while in Dublin, it's quite fun, particularly when you realise that the headquarters of the nasties Mace's Gang is Dublin City Council's HQ in Woodquay.
