Part of the Images of America series, this book is richly illustrated with photographs and stories from throughout the history of Boston's largest park. If there's one flaw it's that the photo captions don't always address what's going on in the pictures. I do appreciate the emphasis on social history that this book brings to the park, although I long to learn even more.

Tough to know what to say about this book. Franklin Park was Frederick Olmsted's favorite creation; it happens to be at the top of my street, and I walk my dog there every day. It's also, if this helps, where Sean Penn's daughter is found in "Mystic River." In the old abandoned bear pits, which are one of the eeriest and coolest and least-known places in Boston. If you love the park half as much as I do, this book is awesome. If you don't know what it is, your mileage may vary.

Definitely looking forward to taking this with me on long walks once it gets warm out again, so I can compare historical photos of some of my favorite places with how they look today.
