Sins of the Fathers kept me glued to my seat, and I was afraid to read more, but I could not stop! FOR THOSE SENSITIVE WITH RAPE SHOULD NOT READ THIS. Five generations had to suffer before the curse could be broken, and I never wanted to face ANY of THE BRUTAL WAYS! I felt sorry for the three girls who were attacked and murdered and I was glad that vengeance was delivered!

I like the cover, but it was the title, Conversations With Dead Serial Killers, that reeled me in. I found the blend of fact and fiction interesting. I have read my share of nonfiction books about serial killers and lots of fictional ones, so to see an author bring them together in the same story had me curious how he would handle it.

Do you believe in psychics? Derek Turner proclaims to be a psychic, manipulates people into handing over money. His life changes when Sam comes into it. She will not leave him alone, dogging his every step, wanting him to do the right thing.

The more I see Sam, the more I like her.

Clive, his brother, helps with the readings. But, he has his own agenda.

The twists are not exposed until the end, and that is always a good thing. I didn’t see the total picture. Whether Derek knew or wanted things to go down the way they did, I don’t know. I think he just wanted to make money and didn’t care too much about the cost.

I think all too often people do glamorize serial killers. I find them fascinating, but ‘regular’ people are just as interesting. I enjoy delving into people’s minds, wanting to know the why of things.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Conversations With Dead Serial Killers by Ashley Lister.

nearthed starts with a bang. From a Magnum. What follows is a fast-paced and brutal tale of cosmic horror with lots of action, unexpected twists, and strong characters.

I love how Lister does not shy away from strong female characters and how three-dimensional his lead characters are. I enjoyed the unpredictability of Unearthed and how the pace left me mentally exhausted. I really dig (pun intended) the classic premise brought forward and modernized and how Lister tweaked it into originality.

Unearthed is a fun read from a fantastic storyteller. It’s a must-read for fans of cosmic horror but has broad enough appeal for any fan of supernatural horror. I look forward to reading the next book in Lister’s Dark Tales from Innsmouth series.

I read Ashley Lister’s Fearless: a dark tale from Innsmouth in one sitting. Oh. My. Gosh. I cannot remember the last time I enjoyed such amazing dialogue in a story. It’s clever and dark and had me laughing and exclaiming out loud, much to my husband’s dismay. The characters and their interactions are absolutely brilliant.

Also brilliant is Lister’s shameless and wicked combining of subgenres in this novella. There is the paranormal, the expected ghost story, but also elements of a medical horror thriller, psychological horror, and some irreverent dark humor. This is a solidly fun read! But perhaps a small disclaimer: while this is not extreme horror, some of the subject matter might not be for those readers who are easily triggered. Lister throws a dash of real life horror in the mix as a catalyst, and it is presented with real life perspectives. One can’t bring the chip-on-one’s-shoulder to this read or one will miss the purposeful depth brought by that addition.

This is a fast-paced and enjoyable story, and I cannot recommend it enough. I look forward to reading the other stories in Lister’s Tales from Innsmouth series. I’m hooked.

So complicated a love story, you need a road map just to navigate the turns. I received a copy of Ashley Listers' Just Desserts in exchange for an honest review. Newly brought to my attention, I wanted to like this story and these characters. That proved to be a pipe dream. Both characters are so self involved that I found it hard to find any redeeming qualities. Secret rendezvous, playing around with the emotions of others- I am not down with that. The up side is that Ms. Lister created a story that is sordid, compelling and well written despite the subject matter.

I’m a sucker for movies and books with strong food related themes, and A Taste of Passion (Sweet Temptation, #1) by Ashley Lister looked like it would fill that need. This was the first book I'd read from Ashley Lister, and I like the book as much as I disliked the book.

The books themes seemed very similar to the trendy hip books making the circuit these days.

• The older “life smart” male Vs the younger not so” life wise” female
• The wealthy, want for nothing male Vs the climbing the mountain to success female
• The sexually knowledgeable male Vs less experienced female (but not a virgin in this case)
• The sexually dominant male Vs the submissive female quickly falling under his spell – quivering with need for what he can sexually give her
• The quick move into a D/s relationship, in this book very little negotiation or bargaining
• The male who can provide all – the sexual, financial, and roof over her head Vs the female who needs all the alpha male can provide

Themes unique to this book:
• The use of kitchen cooking implements for “punishment”
• Almost all sexual scenes carried out in a kitchen
• The heroine is an accomplished professional in the culinary field
• The heroine considers the pros and cons to having this relationship

What did I like about the book:
• The food related themes, the use of culinary images, the imagined smells and tastes, used to wet the sexual appetite.
• I enjoyed the use of term spankmaid
• The hot sex scenes in the kitchen, or the one in the outside cottage garden.
• The story has a plot that’s enhanced by the sexually charged relationship of Bill and Trudy.
• The stories secondary characters bring additional dimension to the various threads, some characters are likable, some quirky, some despicable, and some you wonder if they have other motives that haven’t been played out yet.

What did I disliked about the book:
• In several instances the author gets repetitive – saying the same thing back to back, using slightly different wording.
• The way Daryl, Gemma and Charlotte put up with Donnie’s treatment of them
• The unresolved “kitchen fight” that goes from an extremely negative to an extremely positive financial situation for Bill almost overnight
But what I really disliked about this book the most was the abrupt ending, it’s not a cliff hanger, the story just falls right off the cliff! No epilogue, no teaser about the follow on book …just our heroine and a muffin….waiting

Will I read the follow on book – maybe, now I’m going to have to see how many books this story is going to span, because I won’t read a long drawn out plot that could have easily been concluded in one book had the page count been increased.

For me this was a 3.5 – 3.75 star read, and I’ll round up to a 4 star read, just because I’m a sucker for food themes.

Lisette Ashton's 'Servant of the Cane' belongs, as might be guessed from the title, part of the erotic chastisement genre, and I found it to be an excellent example, given that some suspension of disbelief is called for. It concerns a virile young man with the name Cane, who profitably writes fiction in this genre with the submissive help of a group of more young people, mostly female. Each one agrees to one year of servitude in Cane's large house, fully equipped with bondage and chastisement equipment, fully aware of the harsh treatment. The novel follows Rose, a prospective recruit who is introduced on a pretext by her female friend, who both observes Cane's activities and is subjected to the intrigues and betrayals of the current crop of inmates. The chastisement scenes can sometimes be intense, but the plot redeems this. Ashton demonstrates her superb facility with the genre in this superb book.

Another Beach Read

I'm not sure what I think of this one. Maybe I just didn't get what I was expecting.

I liked The Holiday quite a bit and wished it was longer. The Copy Typist's Tale - which was quite like the beginning of the movie The Secretary - was fun but it lacked length as well.

The rest of the stories were mostly meh or not enjoyable (to me, at least).

My first by Ms Ashton, one of the top authors from the Nexus stable, and I must admit that I selected this one largely on the strength of the cover.

The plot is structured around a quest. An academic librarian must submit to a series of ordeals in order to obtain the original manuscript of a lost story by De Sade from a secret society of wealthy libertines. Our heroine is subject to complex intrigues and manipulation, and the ordeals involve sacrilege, pleasure and pain. The structure, and the blasphemous elements in particular, are an authentic nod to Sade, but these lack the sense of guilt that might have given them a charge. The sex is unrelenting, but for me, the proceedings lacked a certain something: too many slim, perfect bodies, glamorous European locations with a lack of telling detail, no real shocks and not a trace of humor. A professionally written piece for sure, and imaginatively constructed, but for me, somehow lacking that vital spark.

That cover? The model is the voluptuous Chloe Vevrier. If you'd like to see more, I suggest a search on her name and the word "Librarian".

Lisette Ashton is a skilled and entertaining writer of erotic fiction with an inventive bias towards dominance/submission and erotic flagellation, principally F/F but usually with enough M/F interest to maintain interest for those seeking such stimulation. This novel is no exception, and fully maintains Ashton’s deserved reputation. It mostly concerns the revenge of a widow who feels cheated out of her inheritance in the form of a novel type of health farm in which healthy exercise mostly involves the satisfaction of basic urges. An intriguing cast of characters is assembled as the ‘Black Widow’ plots her retribution and carries out severe punishments on both staff and guests at the Health Farm, and her progress towards eventual satisfaction is both well-devised and even rather humorous. An entertaining and stimulating read.

Lisette Ashton has the knack of writing erotic stories in a way that reduces the relevance of whether the action being portrayed is M/F or F/F. Apart from broadening the readership to whom this book will appeal, this has the effect of reducing the incidence of ‘flat spots’ in which a reader of a particular orientation feels the need to skip pages. This book has an enjoyably complex plot, surrounding a secret society within a girls’ school, whose emblem, the black garter, must be earned. Surprisingly, the strong disciplinary element contained in the book does not involve the teachers, and is centred on the internal discipline within the society, which is troubled by leaks of erotic behaviour. Ms Ashton makes good use of the interpersonal intrigues and sapphic possibilities that are rife within the society, as well as managing to include some steamy activities with male characters. Although these males invariably come over as ineffectual studs their involvement provides a useful counterbalance to the F/F relationships. A very entertaining read.
