Finally, a book for women like me who have struggled with the early years of motherhood--not just with children's behavior but my own identity. Loved the "Dirty Little Secret" sections and the openers to each chapter. The only thing missing is advice/perspectives of single moms. There were so many references to husbands and nothing for us single mothers.

eh. disappointing. i'm drawn to books about the challenges of motherhood because they make me feel reassured but though this one does point out how hard it all is, i didn't find it helpful. it's really light and kind of ADD with lots of sidebars and distracting elements scattered around as if trying to disguise the fact that it lacks substance. there are better books out there.

Cute book comprised of moments of realization and exasperation at being a mother to small children (and married). The entries are short quotations that occupy an entire page. Good for men to read.

A great look into the pressures that mom's put on themselves and each other.½

This book gives advice and pointers to reassure moms that they don't have to be perfect or do everythings themselves and that it is ok.

While the general premise of this book is good - you can't do it all as a mother, and don't forget there is more to you than just your motherhood - it felt padded out and repetitive. The best parts of the book were quotes from mothers that had been interviewed, and the 'dirty secrets' sprinkled throughout the book (many of which this reader could identify with!)

Perhaps this book is just a victim of its times - there are simply so many 'motherhood is harder than we thought it would be, don't try and be everything to everyone, and here is some humour to help' books that this one just doesn't stand out.

I found this book skimpy on quality advice, information, and readability. I felt like the same point was just repeated 9 or 10 different ways throughout each chapter. The best parts of the book were the quotes and anecdotes from real people, but unfortunately, not the authors' writing style. I'll likely soon forget that I read this.
