This example of flagellation erotica is fairly routine, but its quality of writing lifts it somewhat from the repetitive nature shown by much of the genre. It concerns a young lady, Philippa, who takes lodging with a landlord who is already engaged in a disciplinary relationship with another young female tenant. They awaken Philippa’s tendencies in this direction, introducing her to ‘the scene’, where she finds a male friend who is more than willing to provide the chastisement she craves. The story is amply supplied with a good variety of spankings and canings. Elements of mystery are woven skilfully into the plot, which might otherwise drift into plodding, but the book ends with a worthy surprise.
