Love this book! I'm currently blending a lot of the lessons and ideas from the book into my non-fiction mini lessons. I'm also taking the list of objectives/standards provided and ensuring that my students have been exposed to most of them within this unit. I'm not assessing my students on all of them, however. Many of these lessons are perfect to pull out and use whole-class or for differentiation with students who would most benefit. If you don't see the value in each lesson, you should definitely be able to use many of the reproducibles! I'm planning to use several organizers. Enjoy!… (meer)
Organized into fiction and nonfiction units, this book further breaks each unit into 15 well-sequenced lessons with differentiation and handouts. In both units students study a variety of literary techniques and apply their learning to thier own writing, creating a fictional short story in the fiction unit and memoir in the nonfiction uniit. Preassessments, formative assessments, and rubrics are included. Aligned to the Comon Core Standards, the challenging lessons require students apply critical thinking skills. This book will be a "go-to" in my fourth grade classroom!… (meer)
This was informative and used several short memoirs as examples to develop teaching strategies for the gifted child. I did not care for the icons that were used to identify the goals for each segment. It would have been simpler to write out the target goals instead of having to remember or look up the meaning of each icon.
