George Bailey (1) (1919–)

I read this book hoping for as interesting and insightful a book as Luigi Barzini's "The Italians". The publisher positioned this book to answer that hunger. But, it isn't very insightful. The author having come into contact with his Germans during his NATO service in Germany discovers that the Germans he met were prosperous, having benefited from the post-WWII economic boom. They were predisposed to profit from his USA connections. The result is much more of a travelogue than a dissection.
Being descended from Germans without much money, I didn't find much value in Bailey's ideas about Germans.… (meer)
