We love learning about animal health through natural rearing and herbal remedies from the late and great Juliette de Baïracli Levy. Just a wee general caveat: Always check anyone's remedy ideas, oldtime or modern, against current toxicology and drug-interaction databases. ... And pawleeze find an open-minded vet to consult with before applying the ideas in Levy's books. As with all treatments and remedies, whether of 'traditional' or modern pharma/allopathic origin, over time some are inevitably proven unfavorable.

We have great respect for Levy's teachings, and this book is a gem with no equal. We continue to glean insight from re-referencing this book, deepening our knowledge through Levy's counsel. ... When applying Levy's wisdoms to contemporary dog and cat care, review the ideas with an open-minded vet, just to check that no harm will result. Note that, in general, dogs' systems are more tolerant of herbal tonics and food therapies than are cats. Also, importantly, note that some of the old pet treatments and remedies have been shown to be less than safe. ... At the same time, many old treatments and tonics lay waiting to be rediscovered, and Levy's writings are a primary gateway to recouping lost knowledge of natural pet health.

When applying Levy's wisdoms to contemporary cat care, pawleeze run the ideas past an open-minded vet, just to check that no harm will result. Some of the old pet treatments and remedies have been shown to be less than safe. At the same time, note that many old treatments and tonics lay waiting to be rediscovered, and that much of this can be accomplished by carefully wading through Levy's writings.

I have found this book valuable. The author is very knowledgeable about animals and how to care for them with herbs.

From book: Animal owners who garden or farm organically want to know how to keep their animals healthy without shooting them full of high-powered drugs, which are the barnyard equivalent of pesticides in the fields..........Health is the primary objective of the organic method. Yet in any healthy ecosystem--such as the one formed by soil, plants, animals and man on the farm or homestead--there will be plenty of evidence of decay; almost every leaf will be bitten and chewed, fungus will be attcking an ancient tree, and the goat may be off her feed. The mentality that reacts to the presence of inscets with chemical poisons also tends to overract to the occasional symptomatic presence of illness by striving for chemical perfection. The remedies in this book, by contrast, grow quietly in the fields and require knowledge, not money, for their procurement. But these methods will build a lasting health that will stregthen every member of the whole farm. In addition to being practical, this work is full of fascinating ideas and luminous insights--the direct result of a lifetime's association with natural healing methods by the author, who has a great deal to tell us about health, faith in natural processes, and the animals who depend on us.
