This book covers a wide variety of information such as, the ocean waves, the different seas of our earth, fish life, water pollution etc.

I would use this book as part of a unit study around the ocean. I would pick one area to focus on an build from aligning it with the Common Core Standards.

Last year I really enjoyed creating "jar gifts" for my colleagues for Christmas. I discovered this book was available in my local library's e-book collection and was hoping for some inspiration for this year's gifts. While the author has included a good variety, I found that most of the ones which interested me were similar to things that I found and pinned on Pinterest. It does have an index which will be helpful for those seeking a specific recipe or inspiration for a specific ingredient. The e-book formatting is a bit awkward as recipes are broken in too many places. It's an optional purchase for most persons, particularly those who use Pinterest.½

The World Book Ecology Series: Life in the Oceans includes information on many different sea creatures with many color photographs and illustrations. Chapters are short and concise with useful information that captures the reader’s attention. Chapters include topics on the ocean’s power, saving the ocean, animals and fish of the ocean, and ocean resources. I like how there are separate text boxes within the chapters to highlight important facts: “Did you know? Salt is not the only substance found in seawater. There are also tiny traces of gold, silver, uranium, and other valuable minerals”. Even though I checked this out from a high school library I think it is more suited for middle school. The short chapters and bold print make this a good series for middle school students and can be useful for high school students who are below basic, or English as a second language readers.

This book is a great introduction to many aspects of the biology of the rainforest: the plants, animals, and ecosystem. It also talks about the people native to rainforests, and about the destruction that rainforests currently face. It also includes a rainforest story and a quiz about the information in the book.
