This was the Carter text. Plus something on Virgil, quite a few of the authors pop up elsewhere

A very in depth and well research book. A little hard to read as it is a bit dry

The story of Irish Protestants, told as thousands of factoids, loosely organized in shoe-box chapters by social class. There’s not much in the way of interpretation – the emphasis seems more on making sure no snippet of research goes unrecorded. Many of the snippets are fascinating, though.

The language is donnish (what did I expect? He’s an Oxford don.). He sent me off to the dictionary for “armigerous” and “jactitation of marriage”.
