Nicolas Bassée

This book is highly recommended as a place to start studying 16th century pattern books. The patterns are very typical of the time (in fact, many of the woodcuts were purchased from earlier publishers), and there is an excellent introduction by Kathleen Epstein, which includes pictures of some of the possible uses for the patterns.
