This is a really in-depth look at the Oakland A's, from their move out west in 1968, through their first World Series title in 1972. It's amazing how much information this author was privy too! All of the troubles between owner Charlie Finley and two of his superstars, Vida Blue and Reggie Jackson! And all of the quotes! It's like actually being there! How about the Dave Duncan story of his role at the end of the 1972 World Series? And Opening Day of the 1968 season during the riots following the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King? Very interesting and entertaining reading!

On a somber note, just about two years after this book was published, Finley destroyed all he had built. In some very, very ugly ways. Still, he wasn't nearly as bad as the A's current owner. No where near...… (meer)
