- Kerstin Bernadotte was born Elin Kerstin Margareta Wijkmark
in Stockholm, the daughter of Swedish theologian Henning Wijkmark and his wife Elin Larsson. In 1935, she married Axel Johnsson, and after their divorce, she remarried in 1946 to Prince Carl Johan of Sweden, Duke of Dalecarlia. They adopted two children. Her husband was barred from using his royal titles because of marriage to a commoner and divorced woman, and became a businessman under the name Carl Bernadotte. She was a writer and journalist, and served as the editor of Veckorevyn magazine from 1938 to 1945 and Bildjournalen magazine in 1954–1956. She published three books, En dag med kungen (A Day with the King, 1967), about her father-in-law King Gustaf VI Adolf; Ett så'nt liv, her memoirs (1975), and Moderna manér (1982), a book of manners. The couple lived in the USA for many years, but returned in later life to Sweden to live in Båstad in Sweden's southern province of Scania.
