The founder of Otherwise Editions and Angel Editions, Sara J. Angel brings extensive experience to her Toronto-based publishing companies, where she specializes in the creation of innovative, illustrated books on subjects including art, photography, food, and history. After graduating from McGill University, Sara J. Angel began her career as an editor at the publishing house Macfarlane Walter & Ross, where she worked with authors, including Anne Kingston, Lynn Crosbie, and Stevie Cameron. Sara J. Angel then became a senior editor at Toronto’s Prentice Hall, Inc., where she commissioned, edited, and art directed the national best-seller Mondo Canuck: A Canadian Pop Culture Odyssey by Greig Dymond and Geoff Pevere. Following roles as a commentator on CBC Television’s On the Arts and Project Director at the internationally renowned graphic design firm Bruce Mau Design, Sara J. Angel moved to London to work for the art publisher Phaidon Press, where her book projects focused on contemporary culture, photography, and fashion. In 1998, Sara J. Angel returned to Canada and established Otherwise Editions. In 2004, she expanded Otherwise Editions into Angel Editions with a focus on producing books for the international market. Many books produced by Sara J. Angel have been critically acclaimed best-sellers, including Susur: A Culinary Journey by Susur Lee; The Museum Called Canada: 25 Rooms of Wonder, text by Charlotte Gray, content selection by Sara J. Angel; Fights of Our Lives: Elections, Leaderships, and the Making of Canada by John Duffy; and Canada’s House: Rideau Hall and the Invention of a Canadian Home by Margaret MacMillan, Marjorie Harris, and Anne Desjardins, with Adrienne Clarkson, and John Ralston Saul. In addition to founding her own companies, Sara J. Angel has had an extensive career in journalism.
