The Cowgirl’s Last Rodeo is a Love Inspired novel that is laidback as can be, which is a nice distraction from all the holiday hustle and bustle going on right now. There is definitely a slower start than what I was hoping for, and it took a bit set the scene and get the foundation of what’s going on.

Blind trust is something we can all identify with, and we see this played out as Callie comes home after being on the rodeo circuit for ten years and claims to have changed. Brody, the man who she left holding a ring, has to trust that she’s telling the truth and won’t hurt him again while also helping her to train her rodeo horse Glow that has recently went blind. Is she going to leave again or stay is the question that hangs in the air the entire time you read as you see Callie reconnect not only with Brody but the whole Jacobs family.

I truly felt all the feels with this novel. Glow going blind and having to navigate an unknown terrain is exactly what I have been dealing with the past few weeks with our family dog. Her sight has left quite suddenly, and it’s made for a difficult time in our home, so my heart instantly went out to both Glow and Callie. It’s tough not only witnessing your animal lose their sight but the dependence they now have on you when they’re used to being their own being hits you right in the gut, so this fact alone tethered me to this story on a deeper level.

Seeing this story come to its fruition is satisfying, though it does feel a tad hasty. I wish there could’ve been more storyline involving Brody and Callie in the past, but this story is all set in the present. I love the overall laidback vibe of horse-training and the ranch life. The Jacobs family is so sweet, and I loved Callie and Brodie together. There were moments that tugged on my heartstrings, and I felt the love emanating from the pages. Brody and Callie are both likable characters and the situation they find themselves in is very true to life, which I appreciated. I read this pretty much in one sitting and enjoyed every moment.

Dreams are interesting things, aren’t they? Sometimes we chase them. Sometimes they evolve and change into something else entirely. In The Cowgirl’s Last Rodeo by Tabitha Bouldin, both Callie and Brody are wrestling with their dreams.

Callie is facing the end of one of her dreams (the rodeo) and Brody is so buried under responsibility that he ignores his dreams. And both have a difficult time trusting those dreams to anyone but themselves.

Bouldin’s story pulled me in and had me rooting for everyone I met—not only Callie and Brody, but Brody’s entire family and especially Glow. I enjoyed the interactions the two main characters had with each other and with the horses. The author did a wonderful job of showing me what was involved with horses that needed some extra TLC and to learn to trust people again.

The Cowgirl’s Last Rodeo encompasses family, faith, and healing. And I hope that we get Tenley’s and Molly’s stories soon.

“I’m here and I’m helping. You can’t stop me.” Truer words had never been spoken. If he could stop her, she’d have never left him.”

In the Cowgirl’s Last Rodeo by Tabitha Bouldin, we are introduced to two very headstrong former lovers who have been separated by life. When Brody Jacobs’s dad had a life-altering accident 10 years ago, it changed Brody’s life plans, too. Instead of being a traveling, renowned horse trainer, he chooses to stay at the ranch to support his family.

Meanwhile, his girlfriend, Callie Wade, whom his family “adopted” because of her parents’ indifference, left about that time to follow her dream of being part of the rodeo circuit.

Ten years later, Callie is desperate for Brody’s help to retrain her beloved horse, Glow, so she can return to the rodeo circuit. What follows is a good look at two individuals who are trying to work life out for themselves, trusting no one but themselves. Secrets, heartache, and pain become patterned ruts. I liked this book because I got disgusted with both characters’ short-sightedness. But you know what? That is so typical of real people, trying to maneuver through life on their own, without others or God. So the characters’ flawed lives are fitting!

These two act like thornbirds, getting close, backing up, running away, hurting each other. “I’ll help Glow. On one condition.”…
“We don’t talk unless we’re training.”
“The Jacobses were like family to her, and she’d abandoned them, left them behind as though they had no value to her, and she’d never looked back. “
Can these two find a reason and the power to stop the cycle?

I received a copy of the book from the author and Celebrate Lit. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.

Notable Quotable:
“Some things about people change, but usually, who they are at their core...that stays the same.”
