One of several titles authored by Marian Broida in the Hands-on History series. This particular book includes 9 projects that will help readers gain a better understanding of what it is was like to live during Revolutionary times. Book is divided into 5 sections: Introduction, The Loyalists, The Patriots, The British and Epilogue. Each section includes a brief explanation of the group followed by a craft. Projects include making a Liberty or British flag, a Mobcap, a Medical Kit,and several others. Favorite project: make “a saw for cutting off wounded arms and legs” and a leech jar to be included in their Medical Kit. Educational, but ew. All projects include a list of needed items and step by step instructions with illustrations. Introduction to each section includes reproductions of well-known paintings that portray major events of the era. Epilogue includes glossary, books and websites for additional information, metric conversion chart and index.

This is a great book with loads of activities for teaching children about Egyptian, Mesopotamian, Nubian and Hittite civilizations. We didn't work through the entire book, but enjoyed the activites that we did do. It was good to see a book covering some areas that aren't often discussed in much detail. There's loads of stuff about Egypt, but it's harder to find good resources on other ancient civilizations.
