A love triangle - The hero, Caleb and his dead love, Lily. And the heroine, Angie.

The source of angst, the plot, is based on his love for his deceased gf and his inability to move on:
“I was dating a girl named Lily. She was one of the most beautiful girls I’d ever seen.”
“Lily and I became almost inseparable”
“The tears started to run down his face. “I tried to stop, but the roads were still wet and I lost control of the car.”
“Lily wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the car.”
“I watched Lily close her eyes for the last time.” His sobs increased.

The heroine IS special to him, here's at least one reason:
“ “..............you and Lily have the exact same eyes. I’d never seen them before or since…until I met you.”"

The poor heroine (the living one) is understanding, but of course it hurts:
“He still wasn’t looking at me and the thought of him loving someone else had me slowly dying inside."

He hurts her terribly, continuously throughout the book as he waffles around and again, just before the end:
“If you can find it in your heart to forgive me one more time, I will never hurt you again,”

She loves him, forgives him (again) and is appeased by his determination to prove his love for her. Especially when he alters his tattoo (the one he had done to remember his dead gf by) to incorporate his feelings towards her. Well, he doesn't alter it as much as added onto it, but I know there are heroines who can be quite happy with this kinda thing....

*shudder*

I expected 'Letters Home' to be poignant and it is but it's also story of courage and friendship. This romantic tale was a little different from what I expected but I found it a real feel good read.
The first quarter of the book focuses on Dani and Nate's romance and it's clear they are so in love. The pacing in this section is gentle but it sets the scene for what happens in the remainder of the story beautifully.

The plot is interesting with more than one surprising outcome. Well written supporting characters enhance the story's main characters perfectly. This book has an easy style which draws you in. I read this in a few hours and I didn't want to put it down.

Dani is a courageous woman who has everything to look forward to. When her partner Nate, makes a unilateral career decision she accepts this because she loves him. When her life disintegrates only her friends and family hold her together but it's a stranger who helps her to live again.

Sensitively and realistically written heart breaking moments define this story but its underlying theme is hope and positivity reflected by a lovely romantic ending.

I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

Forgiven by Rebecca Brooke is a tragic and beautiful and ultimately forgiving tale of overcoming your past and learning to move forward. Told from both Caleb and Angie's points of view, this story slowly builds your insight into their past and how it has built the people they are today. The beautiful thing about their relationship is that you also get to see how their love heals who they were.

Caleb is a loner, he gets along with his roommate Josh because neither one has any desire to dig into their pasts. They each have things best left forgotten. Caleb denies his attraction to Angie for as long as possible believing he does not deserve her, but the feelings he has for her outweigh his desire to protect her from himself.

Angie has dealt with emotional and verbal abuse for almost as long as she can remember so when her history professor assigns Caleb as her project partner and she gets a rude brush off from him she knows it's the last thing she needs. Well, almost the last thing, a failing grade for not working as a team on this project is the LAST thing she needs.

Together they grow stronger and learn to forgive themselves for the bad things that have happened to them.
