A lift-the-flap(s) book showing scenes from cities all over the world. Young readers and their grown-ups must rely on clues in the picture to identify each city, so background knowledge (or research) is required.

Same illustrator as Cookies, Pancakes, Pizza, and Tacos (interactive recipe board books).

the Lion and the Mouse is a fable that teaches people to be kind, humble and thankful. The lion is a prideful animal who helps a little mouse to reach some berries. The mouse is thankful and tells the lion that if he ever needed help that she would be glad to help him. The prideful lion doubts that he would ever need help from a tiny little mouse. However, one day the lion gets trapped in a net and cannot escape, and the tiny little mouse came to save him by chewing him out of the net. The lion realizes that he was wrong to think a mouse could not help him and the lion and the mouse becomes best friends.

Jenny Broom, like many others, readapted this story from the Aesop's fables. I enjoyed reading the story and especially liked the peek-through windows on every page and the cool illustrations.
I also read peoples thoughts on this fable and generally people call attention to the Lion's pride and the mouse's humbleness. But for some reason, I associated this story with gender roles as well. The lion is prideful, but also the king of the jungle (man of the house, provider etc.) and the mouse is just a tiny, small part of the wild (the woman, the help). The lions attitude towards the mouse offering help was much like the attitudes of men in 40's who believed women were incapable of providing or working or anything! And until the humble little mouse freed the lion, the lion would have remained full of pride.

Summary:
This book is a detailed book on the tree of life and all of the animal groups that are named on it. The author overviews the classification tree for the animal kingdom. then the author breaks down each animal group, providing remarkable detail and masterful illustrations.

Review:
First of all, this is one of the coolest animal books I have ever seen. While the language makes this book more suitable for over grades, I believe younger students would be enthralled by simply looking at the illustrations. In an upper elementary classroom, this type of book would be an excellent tool in a lesson or unit on animal classification since the book is broken up into those groups already.

This is a gently re-telling of Aesop's fable without any initial animosity between the lion and the mouse. The story shows how a little mouse can do a huge lion a great favor, but it loses some of the moral value about enemies being friends in the traditional tale.

This book a cute take on the tale the lion and the mouse. The pages are filled with bright colors and cute cut outs. This story tells of how you can not judge someone based on their size. You can help someone no matter how big or small you are. I would definitely have this book in my class. It has a lot of art in it and I take interest in books that have interesting art throughout it.½

A retelling of the classic tale, "The Lion and the Mouse" with bright color illustratons and peek through pages. This book would be perfect for storytime because it was plenty of opportunties for the audience to be interactive with the reader. Young readers will definitely enjoy all the peer through holes to look through. This book is really speaking to young readers. I would definitely have this in my classroom to educate my students on "The Lion and the Mouse." This retelling is the exact same as the classic because the storyline is the same. The Lion thinks the little mouse could never help him. But little does he know, he gets caught in a hunters nest and can't get out. He wishes someone will help him. The mouse then nibbles on the nest to set the Lion free. A great retelling of the classic book.

Almost everyone has heard the basic tale of the brave lion who helps a mouse and the frail mouse who in return helps the lion. This is another fable with a twist on how the mouse helps the lion. I have heard this tale told with the mouse pulling a thorn out of a lions paw, while this story has the mouse chew the lion's trap apart. Teachers: definitely a good read for any compare and contrast lesson. This book has peek-through windows on every page, making it more entertaining for little kids. The illustrations are done geometrically and the writing is positioned linear and circular depending on the imagery provided on the page.

I’m not sure this book is really intended for children: it is so filled with majestic illustrations it will appeal to all ages. Children, especially younger ones, are likely to be over-whelmed by sensory overload. This oversized book is brim-full of magnificent drawings that you do, indeed, have to see to believe. The text is informative and works well with the illustrations. The book is correctly named – it is a wonder.

A major theme in this book is to not judge someone by their size. The lion didn't think a small mouse could help a big lion like him until the lion need the mouse to get him out of a net. "Great and mighty lion" bolded and "little mouse" smaller font size then everything else, shows emphasis on those specific words.

This story was the same as many stories that I have heard before growing up about how the lion thought that the mouse was of no use, but when it came time for the lion to need help the mouse was able to help. The great thing about this book was the peek-through windows on the pages that added some dramatic effect to the story. The art work was really great and as a teacher you can even bring up about how the art seems to be a lot of different shapes instead of just lines and coloring.

The Lion and the Mouse byJenny Broom is a color book with fun cutout pictures that connect to following pages. The book's text is large, appealing and easy to read. The language of the story is lively however I remember another "Lion and the Mouse" story where the mouse saves the lion by removing a thorn from the lion's paw. Either way, the traditional tale has the same plot and theme being not to underestimate something based on appearance. The lion never thought that the mouse could help him out one day, until the day came when the mouse saved the lion's life.

This lavished illustrated book is about exploring 5 different habitats of the world. Each habitat is covered on the book with three sections: one on general information about the habitat, and two others about two different groups of animals that live in that particular ecosystem. The size and cover of the book are totally eye-catchers for any children and adult alike. It features a golden door printed with golden ink “indentations” (felt by touch), where animals in colors explode from all directions. The illustrations are exuberant and elegant, making the access to the scientific knowledge of these regions of the world in a fun and exciting way. After this journey love for nature and science in young readers is a given.

On the front of this gorgeous oversized book, a sticker reads “Welcome to the Museum,” and indeed, as you turn the pages, you will feel as if you have stepped into the magical world of a natural history museum that has somehow come right into your house.

As Dr. Sandra Knapp of London’s Natural History Museum observes in the forward, we share our planet with about two million other species of living things, and these show incredible diversity. But of course we don’t always get to see many of the marvelous creatures of this planet in our daily lives. The “Animalium” attempts to remedy that omission, bringing a virtual museum to you that is “open twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.” It is also, as the author contends, “the only museum to house animals ancient and modern, enormous and tiny, vicious and vulnerable, between two covers.” And it is amazing.

This portfolio-like book is divided into six “galleries”: invertebrates, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. Each section is then further divided by branches of these life forms. You receive some background generally on the division, and then details on specific features of sub-groups. [For example, in the invertebrate section, there are separate “exhibits” on porifera (sponges), cephalopods (such as squid and octopi), cnidaria (examples: anemones and corals), and flying insects.] In addition, each division showcases an ecosystem common to these life forms (for invertebrates, the habitat featured is coastal waters).

At the end of the book there is an excellent index which includes both common names and scientific names (also provided for in each “exhibit”). There are also some links to online guides for further information. To name a few: although the book does not get into scientific classification, it does reference the BBC site which explains all about taxonomic ranking, and even provides a printable tree life poster. The Monterey Bay Aquarium site has many fun resources, including printable guides to sea creatures and habitats divided by grades. ARKive is a not-for-profit initiative to create “an awe-inspiring record of life on Earth” and has a fantastic database of articles on conservation and climate change. These would also make great resources for kids doing reports for school.

The information in this book is excellent, but what will entrance you the most will probably be the illustrations by Katie Scott. Her drawings were initially made with pen and ink and then colored digitally.
Evaluation: This unusual book is marketed for kids 8-12, but I would identify it instead as a coffee table book for all ages.

The lion and mouse begin a friendship by the lion helping the mouse. The mouse wants a berry that it cannot reach so the lion helps it. In return, the mouse says it will help the lion. One day, the lion is stuck in the a rope and the mouse chews it until it becomes free. This story is a great read aloud. The illustrations are great and will catch a child's eye. The book teaches you not to judge someone by their outer appearance. At first, the mouse was scared of the lion, but realized he was friendly. The lion believed the mouse could never help him, but was pleasantly surprised when it did.

This is a sweet story about friendship between two unlikely pairs. The lion helps the little mouse read a juicy berry. In return, the mouse, told the lion he would do anything he could for him. The lion didn't think he would need the mouse, until he got caught in a rope. The little mouse chewed through the rope, setting the lion free. This book is a fantasy book that teaches you not to underestimate people.
