Leigh Brown

In 1975 I was a student attending a university in Montana, and was homesick for Virginia. When I came across this book, a new addition of the Missoula County Library, I grabbed it for a little taste of home. It did not disappoint. Filled with names like Rodney Jenkins and Idle Dice, the book was a fictional novel set in the world of professional show jumping.

The main character is a young woman who dreams of qualifying for the US Equestrian Team while still hanging onto her amateur status; something that was necessary at the time of this book. Befriended by Davey, a professional rider, she struggles to balance her normal life with her growing need to ride full time.

The book was a favorite for years. Unfortunately, my library no longer carries this book. Last time I read it though, back in the 1990s, I was please to see it still held up over the years since it was first written.… (meer)
