A graduate of Sweet Briar College in Virginia, with an M.A. in English from Humboldt State in California, Anne Butler has worked as a journalist, writer, and editor on both coasts. She is the author of a dozen books. She lives on her 1790s family plantation near St. Francisville, Louisiana, and has toon meer written about this fascinating part of the South for years toon minder

Weep for the Living door Anne Butler
When I first started reading this book, I wasn't sure I was going to like it. The first couple of chapters involve a description of and history of the area in Louisiana where this crime took place. Once the story of the attempted murder began, however, I couldn't put it down. It is a very interesting story and amazing that Anne Butler lived to tell it. For true crime readers, I highly recommend it.
A wonderful book! I'm still not quite clear on my Louisiana social geography, but as I understand it, this book treats the southern reaches of LA-1. It treats the plantation contry along the River Road from Baton Rouge to New Orleans, and then on south along the Bayou Laforche out to sea. The places described in this book include the fabulous sugar plantations along the route and the more crude Cajun influence. The recipes and the text take a person along the river road and discuss and great sugar cane plantations and then, as the ground turns into the swampy Louisiana coast, the Cajun influence and the bounty of the marsh.… (meer)
