A good short account of the short siege of Wiener Neustadt endured by Friedrich III to keep the heir of the kingdoms of Hungary and Bohemia, Ladislaus Postumus, under his control. Friedrich III lacked the resources to withstand the siege for long and rather quickly surrendered his nephew to his opponents. Ladislaus Postumus, freed from Friedrich's clutches, did not cease to be an object of a power struggle. The Czechs and Hungarians battled over who would control their king - all in vain, as young Ladislaus died just five years later.

Only a few years later, Friedrich III would be besieged again. This time in Vienna by his brother Albrecht. Friedrich III, however, was a survivor who succeeded to hold on to power and land despite all odds. He outlasted all his opponents and arranged his son's rise to European prominence.… (meer)
