This is the first instalment of a paranormal erotica short story trilogy revolving around goth student Raven DuBois. With her goth style, tattoos and piercings Raven cuts a strange and exotic figure in her Comparative Mythology class. She’s the exact opposite of her staid, boring church-going classmate Darrin Brown and his chaste girlfriend Melody. After a run-in with Raven, however, Darrin finds himself plagued with lustful visions and lecherous thoughts and is soon under her dangerous, seductive spell. That is only the beginning of his problems, however, as both he and Melody find themselves pawns in Raven’s demonic soul stealing machinations. “Sins of the Flesh” is strong stuff; it is a powerful horror yarn, populated with great characters and a compelling scenario. The story builds nicely, at first camouflaging itself as a standard piece of erotica, but it quickly goes off in a completely unexpected direction, before ending in a very dark and disturbing place. Raven DuBois is an excellent character with hints about her past and activities layered into the story – it is going to be interesting to learn more about her. Vanna B’s writing is strong and exciting, providing a great voice for each of her characters, while propelling the story along from one amazing scene to the next. The balance between the horror and the red-hot erotic elements is brilliantly handled making this a compelling and dynamic story. I read this book on kindle. I wasn’t sure what to expect but it was actually a really quick read. I only read in my spare time after work and was done in 2 days. The characters are interesting, although Fancy is a bit too gullible and trusting, even for a party girl, but I enjoyed the book. There were several typos of one word in particular, but it didn’t take away from the storyline. It was an extremely quick read and the twists and turns are sometimes unexpected; I didn’t predict most of them. Clearly there will be a sequel as the ending was open ended… (meer)
