"On Silver Knob Creek" is an old-fashioned evangelical type of book. The story is one that holds a reader's interest: After their parents are killed in a tornado that destroys their farm, three teenage siblings are offered the use of a cabin in the mountains, owned by their great-uncle. The story tells of their journey to the cabin, the improvements they make, but mostly, it tells of their attempts to lead their moonshiner neighbors to salvation in Christ.

The story, likely aimed to teenagers, was written in 1939 -- yet it is amazing how relevant their observations are about life with and without Christ. I consider this to be a sweet story, one that would rarely be written nowdays in such a blatantly evangelical manner.… (meer)
