I thoroughly enjoyed my time reading this book. Light-hearted, warm, and familiar - it was like reading bits and pieces of letters from a dear friend. My favorite story was "Unlimited" in which Mr. Close describes his athletic career in humorous detail. Much of the stories were in a self-deprecating manner and dealt with his work and marriage, very funny and true to life. I wish Mr. Close luck in his literary endeavors. And, if he ever has to relocate, a professional moving company.

The Art of the Very Short Story is an excellent book for writers of all types, not just for very short stories. The author here is mostly talking about what I call drabbles, but the techniques he talks about apply to wider types of fiction.
For example, he talks about context, metaphor, surprises or twists, characterization, and setting among other things and gives a lot of good examples.
I found this an extremely useful book on writing and would recommend it to anyone who writes, not just very short story authors.… (meer)

This is a book of short stories about things that happen in some form in everyone's childhood. A lot of my memories of my childhood are about random, insignificant events but for some reason are etched in my memory--that is exactly what these stories are in Childish Things.
An easy read, you can pick up this book and read a story or two in your spare time.

This is a collection of stories that revolve around childhood and the (sometimes trivial) events that we hold onto as we grow up. There was a sense of melancholy about this book that I wasn't expecting. It wasn't that all of the stories were sad, but there was something a little reserved about them. Each story is almost like a glimpse into a child's life, but from the perspective of an adult. I wasn't sure if there was something I was missing while reading them.

However, this is a collection of stories that will stay with me. They were strangely personal moments, and even though they had no climax, I felt like they were the types of memories adults can remember from their childhood. My favourite stories were Jeffrey's Last Trick or Treat, a comical story about the last time a young boy goes out for Halloween and Stubborn, another funny story about a father and son dealing with a tree in their backyard.

This was an enjoyable collection of stories, and I'd recommend it to others.
