In depth detail from 1800's right through to 2009 on the history of the shipping in Portland Harbor. Interesting personal interview tidbits from longshoremen...would have enjoyed more of the details from those. It did get a bit dry for me. I was reading to gain more perspective on historical challenges for Irish laborers in Maine and did gain a good deal of information.
Not a sit-down and read from cover to cover book (it's heavily foot-noted), this book of essays on the history of the Irish in Maine holds a special spot on my library shelves--it's a real gem.
