“I Took The Moon For A Walk” by Carolyn Curtis & Alison Jay is a fiction book that brings the moon to life. With the rhyme scheme that the author uses, it makes it an easy read for students. The illustrations go along with the words perfectly so even a child who’s in the process of learning how to read could still comprehend the story accuratel by using the illistrations alone. This book would be a good read aloud book for early elementary school students.

I Took the Moon for a Walk

Summary: "I Took the Moon for a Walk" is a book about a little boy and his adventures walk with the moon. He says the moon followed behind him like a still kite. The little boy then tells the children everything that happened when he took the moon on a walk. He told the moon to rise higher so the churches pike wouldn't get him. They also tiptoed through grass, and passed the dogs of the town that made a train-whistle choir.

Personal Reaction: To me this book is really cute and the kids seemed to really enjoy it. They liked to use their imagination with this book.

Classroom Extensions:
I would have the kids make a poster of what they would do if they took the moon on a walk.

This realistic fictional picture book tells the story of a boy who took the moon for a walk. The boy learns what a reflection is or an echo from a wold. He went on adventure and did many different activities with the moon. He then discovered that the moon is a light that he can trust in at night.

In this whimsical book, a boy walks along his sleepy neighborhood at night with the moon trailing behind before finally returning home to sleep as the moon keeps watch outside his house. The imaginative story and gentle illustrations make this book a lovely one to add to your collection, especially as a bedtime story. The book also ends with some facts about the moon, its phases, and animals that are nocturnal, making it an informative as well as fun read.

The very first thing that struck me, upon reading I Took the Moon for a Walk for the first time, was that its rhythms were distinctly and beautifully reminiscent of classic nursery rhymes.

A nice little mellow rhyme. Strange pictures. Not my favorite.

My mommy got this book for me, and I love it! I quickly memorized all of the words, and I have many favorite parts. I love to list the names of the different breeds of dogs, and when we get to the end I love to tell my mommy the phases of the moon and the names of all the animals. As I told my mommy the first time we read it (back when I was 2): "That was a really good book!"

"I took the Moon for a walk last night. It followed behind like a still summer kite, though there wasn't a string or a tail in sight, when I took the Moon for a walk." The simple imagery of this sweet board book reads like a poem to childhood, that magical time when the Moon was our friend and we explored the world by its light. The rich illustrations, with deep blues to offset the bright white of the Moon, bring us into this world, with a slight sheen of crackle, to show how we're in a dream-like state where the narrator swings on the swingset with the moon, chases night crawlers, and other nighttime activities. The large pages are easy to read, and there are two pages at the end for parents to help explain the moon cycles and the creatures of the nighttime world. Children aged 2-4 will love this book before bedtime, and parents will love reliving their childhood adventures with them.

Good read aloud-the title says it all-will allow for some noise and movement interactions.

A very enjoyable bedtime book for my boys and I. Everytime I turned the page they would yell "moon" seeing the big moon illustrations on every page. They would also see the boy in the story and each son would say it was them in the story. It reminded me of how much I loved just looking out on a clear night sky to relax when I was younger. I took the moon for plenty of walks.

A great library story time book for young kids and those learning about rhymes as well.

This is a book illustrated by Alison Jay, so that the pictures are gorgeous hardly needs to be said.

The simple rhyming text complements the pictures very nicely, thank you. This book would work very well as a bedtime book for babies as well as young preschoolers.

My two-year-old grandson became fascinated with the moon. I bought this as the monthly installment of his "Tutu [grandmother] Book of the Month Club." He fell in love with it. When everyone goes home for the night, a little boy takes the moon for a walk around his neighborhood to see the animals and plants, the bridge and the church steeple. Alison Jay uses her characteristic crackled varnish over oil for her charming illustrations. This beautiful book is artfully written in lovely poetry. It is a feast for the eyes, the ears, and the imagination.
