3.5 - 4ish I had a fun time stars

Brad is a total bro who finds himself transported to the world of a omegaverse novel he was reading . . . oh and turns out he IS an omega and has a mate, Raul, who is just trying to help Brad out lol. This was a fun (and at times funny) exploration of the subgenera. I will definitely read the rest of this series.

Yeah no. Not into the insta-love and the very literal killing for the person you love.

Totally over the top, meta parody that also works as its own shifter romance.½

I liked it

It was a sweet little story. Fun to see these charaters in a different setting. I would read the others if Joel wrote more.

I read #1 a few years ago and then missed this one when it first came out. Overall this book has a dark feel - though part of that might come from I just came off a series binge of light, funny and positive. It might also have to do with the fact it is fire season and we are surrounded - sigh. Anyway, Great characters, and a good plot line with decent if straightforward development. The world of the story is not well developed and I seem to remember I had the same feeling with #1. This leaves me feeling a bit off with the characters not fully anchored in their world. Overall a solid 4.

His Second Chance Omega is the fifth book in ‘The Mountain Shifters’ series. It stars Miles, aka ‘Doc’, the doctor of the Pine Valley pack, and Blue, the pack’s new Alpha. This is told in third person through Miles and Blue’s pov.

I haven’t read the previous four books, but I didn’t have a problem following along with the plot in this story. Previous characters from the other books showed up and I was curious about them, so I might go back and read the other stories depending how I feel about the many mistakes I found in this one.

I enjoyed the plot. It was well thought out, combining romance and a bit of intrigue about a situation dealing with omegas, which involves Doc. However, I felt the story was a bit rushed, mostly the romance between Miles and Blue. I understand Blue knew instantly that Miles was his mate, but Miles suffered twenty-five years of neglect under his dead Alpha mate, making Miles insecure. The previous Alpha and a couple other pack members encouraged the pack to treat Miles unkindly. I can’t believe Miles gets over it in a few months, which the story implies. It would’ve been nice to feel more of Miles growing confidence in Blue rather than being told how the situation changed.

The author did a good job with the characters, not just Miles and Blue. They all had distinct personalities that continued throughout the story. I could believe in them as a couple.

If you’re looking for hot Alpha/omega sex, you won’t find it in this book. It’s fade to black or very brief. In fact, I found the initial sex scene odd. I clearly got the impression it was a male/female sex scene rather than a male/male scene. Either the males in this series don’t have male genitals, they’re all Trans, or they’re intersex. If a book is fantasy mpreg, I prefer it give some hint as to how the male is actually going to give birth. Is it by cesarean? Do the males develop a birth canal as the fetus develops? Alternatively, do they only have female organs? Not giving enough information in all aspects of a story comes across as cheating the reader and that the author didn’t want to bother with the details, thus making the world building incomplete. Lack of detail in world building can lower my opinion of a story.

In addition to the lack of information about mpreg and the rushed feeling of the emotions of Miles, there are many grammar issues. I found many missing words and instances where the character name wasn’t the correct one. What bothered me the most were the sequence errors. For instance, here are some simple ones. Miles is standing; next thing I read is he is getting up from a squat position. When did he first squat or sit down? There’s no information on it. Another instance is Blue is holding Miles close, then some dialogue, and then Blue reaches out to pull Miles close again. There’s no indication that Miles stepped away allowing Blue to pull Miles back again. At the beginning of the story, there were a couple of instances were the sequence of events was out of order. Reading back, I could tell where the paragraphs should have been placed after or before other paragraphs instead. Either this is bad writing or the author needs to get some better proofers and beta readers, because these mistakes were sloppy and did affect my opinion of the writing.

Final comment. The cover models don’t look anything like Miles or Blue. Blue has blond hair with a streak of blue. In addition, the model in the back who is supposed to be Miles, is not plump. Miles is plump and forty-five years old. That model doesn’t fit Miles in any way. For me personally, I don’t like it when the cover models aren't accurate or don't closely enough depict the characters.

If you’re okay that the sex and mpreg in this book doesn’t make sense more than in other mpreg stories, and that Miles recovers from twenty five years of emotional neglect and insecurity in months, then His Second Change Omega is for you. The book has a good plot and characters, but it could’ve been so much better if the author had taken more time to flesh out the relationship, made better world building with the mpreg situation, and fixed the obvious errors. I give this book 3 Stars only because I liked Miles and Blue and the plot, otherwise there’s too many problems with the story.

This was a fun, short read that was great for distracting myself during my quarantine time. This wasn't really anything super special but I did like it and it was exactly what I was expecting and looking for. I don't know if I'll read more books in this series but I would definitely be open to doing so!

I enjoyed the premise of the story, however alternating 1st person POV is really difficult to accomplish if your characters don't each have a distinctive 'voice', and unfortunately that was the case here.

Also there some formatting issues on my Kindle that made it difficult to work out who was speaking.

This could have been a great book, if it were a bit longer and more detailed. From the moment they actually met, it went from zero to sixty.

There's nothing mysterious about this book and the dual POV does not help. Everything is on page. The reader knows everything. There are no shivers running down my spine. It's a little boring to me.
I might continue later on, but right now I'm not at all compelled to do so.

This story ended exactly how I hoped it would... but I also felt like the story didn't build up to it properly. A little more hinting towards coming together as a unit of three would have helped I think.

After years of being imprisoned, used and abused by his father, Holden is finally settling down in Stillwater, a small New England town. He's been on the run for a long time, trying to cover his tracks by changing his name and moving from one place to another as far away from his home state as possible.

A happy protective bubble of Stillwater seems like heaven. It has a few quirks, of course, but which town does not? Everyone knows everybody and people are mostly friendly. That is until Holden meets Daniel, a local vet (who is a veteran). An injured cat and the severity of the injury make Holden a catnapper when he refuses to surrender the poor kitty for euthanization and flees the clinic.

Daniel knows what Holden is and confronts him shortly after catnapping. From that moment on the town secrets and the mysterious creatures start coming out of the woodwork full force. Every time you turn the page, there is a surprise. Every time you think you finally know who/what the person is, you are proven wrong. Things, people, situations turn and twist; there is humor, there are pockets of darkness and despair; there is an amazing diversity of characters (not going into details on the characters' subject, cause - spoilers! ;))

I could not get enough of the book and really wanted to give it five stars, but here is this:

- it ends smack in the middle of things. I can't even call it a cliffhanger, more like the author roughly separated the manuscript in two without much thought. I honestly would not advise reading this first installment until the second one comes out.
Update: LC just said it will by out in June. YAY!!! =)

- the story lost its momentum around 80%. Instead of fast paced it became stagnant with characters sitting around in one spot for weeks, waiting for the next full moon, reflecting, eating pizza and even (finally) having sex (since there is literally nothing else to do). But it looks like things are going to pick up with a vengeance in book two :D

Otherwise, an excellent read and pure pleasure :) Highly recommended :)

This was a very serious wow from me. This book was recommended to me, and it sounded interesting enough, so I decided that I would try it out. It isn't only interesting enough, it totally wowed me. It's intense. It's passionate. It's filled with love and hate and betrayal and just about everything that you could possibly want out of a story.

Nicolae may be the chief ash-hole of all the ash-holes in the world, and he pretty much is, but that's not all he is. It's obvious how much Jack cares for his daughter and what lengths he will go to to protect her from everyone and everything.

All in all, I loved these characters, and I loved this world.

Great Story

I liked Vasil and Mason back when we first met them and I really loved seeing them in this story. It was intense and gritty but so good.

Ok, this one saves the series for me.

After such an abrupt change from HEA to war and losing some major characters I almost gave up on this series, I glad I didn’t.

Spoiler Alert!
Don’t read on unless you want to know!

I spent the last couple of books with a box of kleenex and I usually won’t continue but I’m very happy I did. After the way Mel was brought back I knew Mitchel would be too.

Some people will think this is like “JR’s” dream back in the Dallas days (talk about dating myself!). Maybe it is but the sci-fi elements used in this story made it enjoyable for me. Who knows, we’re working on cloning now right? ROFL

Thoroughly enjoyed this iteration of the werewolf theme. This was the first time listening to Narrator Kirt Graves and was very impressed (and I'm particular; there are some that I just can't listen to).

This book has been given to me in exchange for an honest review.

This book had me hooked from the beginning. It starts out with us meeting Remus, the main character, on his first day of school. He is trying to hide his abusive past from everyone. He meets Arthur, who becomes his roommate, and is sucked into the world of the Lodge. I could sense mystery surrounding Remus from the beginning. I knew there was something wrong with him that he himself wasn't even aware of. There were a few things that seemed too obvious that I couldn't quite get that he didn't realize, even with what is later to be revealed wrong with him(no spoilers from me!). He was a very likable character. I picked up on the truth about Ulric from the beginning. Hopefully the hints that were given prove to be true. Sebastian and Victor are both likable characters as well. Both have their own flaws and I like how Remus is unsure about each of them at different times. It was so much better without the insta-love element. I found myself wrapped up in the mysterious plot of the book. Nothing felt rushed and everything flowed fairly smoothly. There are some spelling and grammatical errors but they can easily be overlooked, for me anyway. I can't wait to read Book 2!

The funniest thing about this book is the name Nicolae Ursache... which is the most non threatening and least sexy or least alpha Romanian name you could possibly find

This book is definitely the actual start of the series. The main characters in Unclaimed Omega all but disappear from the rest of the series. Whereas the characters from this book grow strong legs and carry the series, making it a wonderful, thought provoking read. Don't know why it goes like that, but this book is the one to pay attention to as it spurns some of the better books later in the series.

This was such a cute little addition to this series. Very sweet.

(This cover deserves a collective sigh/eyeroll though. I guess I understand that a pudgy, middle aged man isn't going to sell a book as fast, but geez, does that mean the cover has to be a LIE?) Hmph.

This is my FAVE book of this whole series. Just so gratifying to have Mel back. Stinks that other characters couldn't come back. But Mel the firecracker badass omega has been my favorite this whole time! Good good good book!
