ABC's of Herbal Medicine: Natural Remedies for Common Ailments: All You Need to Know about Herbs for Natural Ways of Healing Yourself by Caridad Del Rey

There are so many books out today about Herbal medicines, and it's nice to have another one in the mix to add to your library. ABC's of Herbal Medicine is full of information about remedies to help when you have an ailment that doesn't require a Dr. For years I have been reading a lot about and using natural healing with herbs and essential oil.

I am thrilled to get this book and with detailed chapters in the front of the book that tells you everything that's in each chapter. It is well organized, tells about each plant and its function. You can even find the correct things you need in your kitchen that will make you life easy as you start with your holistic medicine. One thing that will really help me is, the author tells of beginners mistakes, which is certainly good because this will help from making those same mistakes.

And I could go on and on about what is in this book of Herbal plants, but the main thing is, it so simplified that this book can help anyone that wants to start with Herbal medicines, and it can be a perfect guide to those who are already using natural remedies for their aches and pains and other medical issues.

A special thanks to the publisher and LibraryThing for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

ABC's of Herbal Medicine is an excellent source of what's needed to play a role in keeping your own self healthy. The background information alone --- how and why herbs work, best ways to use them, how to prepare them --- is worth the price of admission.

Along with the ability to search based on herb or symptom, there are recipes and a chapter on the tools that would be good to have once you decide to start working with herbs.

Missing though is an Index, at least in the ebook that I was reviewing, and though that could be fatal, we're saved somewhat by the very complete Table of Contents.… (meer)

ABC’S of Herbal Medicine: Natural Remedies for Common Ailments was written by
Caridad Del Rey. The book was published in 2022 by the author, Caridad Del Rey.
I received this e-book edition from Library Thing’s Early Reviewers Giveaway in exchange for an honest review.
“All you need to know about herbs for natural ways of healing yourself.”
I would say that is a correct synopsis of the book.
The book includes a very complete Table of Contents with an Introduction, 10 Chapters with chapter summaries, Final Words and an extensive Bibliography.
With all nonfiction books, I check out the access points, as they provide for easy navigating of of the book.
For all you librarians out there, cataloging subjects include Herbal Medicines - Healthy Living - Naturopathy - Alternative Therapies

The Introduction
Chapter 1 Basics of Herbalism
*very interesting and terms are very well-defined
*“Herbal Medicine simply refers to the use of stems, roots, flowers, seeds or leaves of
plants to prevent diseases, improve health and treat ailments.”
*3 main approaches that are still practiced: Western, Ayurveda & Traditional Chinese
medicine (TCM)
*a history of medicinal plant use
*every chapter concludes with a chapter summary which I liked
Chapter 2 What are medicinal plants and how do they work?
*well-organized, interesting, easy-to-read & comprehend with examples & illustrations
Chapter 3 Methods of preparation, Storage and Use
*I especially liked the info on drying and storing herbs
Chapter 4 Common Medicinal Plants and their Uses
*very interesting and helpful
Chapter 5 Easy Extractions
*well-organized, easy to read and understand and follow instructions
Chapter 6 Simple Topical Preparations
Chapter 7 Other Preparations
*Some very new words for me. Fascinating info.
Chapter 8 Common Ailments and Herbal Remedies
* very useful, practical info. Illustrations
Chapter 9 Determining Doses
Chapter 10 Tips, Tricks and Tools of the Trade
* well-written, an emphasis on safety, preparation and dosage
Final Words
Bibliography
* an internet-sourced bibliography with articles, authors, dates of publication, source and
its internet address
* I did ‘open’ several articles/sources and read them. The articles I read were well-
written and informative and seemed to be reputable sources.

General Comments:
* I liked the organization of the book.
* I liked the information, especially the historical references of herbs and their medicinal uses
* I liked the colorful cover
* I liked the emphasis on safety, dosage and the ‘recipes’ for salves, creams and infusions
* While I love my Kindle and E-Book Collection for fiction, I feel that I want/require a
physical copy for non-fiction. It is sometimes hard (for me) to navigate an E-Book. I want to easily access a map or glossary or bibliography. This ARC (Advance Reading Copy) was presented to me as an E-Book. When I checked Amazon, this title is offered
as an E-Book or in hardback or paperback form. One could see the colorful cover and
page through a physical copy. My E-edition did not offer any info on the author. I always
want to know the background or credentials of a non-fiction writer.
* I did like the book and will refer to it in the future. ****
