Ali Dent's handbook for creating better readers and hopefully better thinkers shows many interesting techniques for readers of all ages. Dent's division of classic reading into four time periods shows her grasp of reading elements. Dent's tools for creating an enjoyable and stimulating environment for reading present many lessons for any teacher. The discussion of each step of the reading journey shows the excitement open to each and every reader, but Dent provides too many testimonials from her pupils. The final section of the handbook that gives questions, vocabulary, definitions, and project suggestions merits special attention. I missed or failed to see a table of contents at the beginning of the book, which would have been very helpful in the eBook version. I extremely liked mention of source documents. I belong to 3 book clubs and would like to utilize some of Dent’s techniques to enhance our book discussions.… (meer)
