Getting a second chance to make right what went wrong.

A dragon seeker comes to rid a small town of its biggest problem... but that problem is not necessarily the dragon. I can't tell if I liked this one because it reminded me of Carrie Vaughn's story "For Fear of Dragons", or because I just like dragon stories in general, or both.

This was an "amuse bouche" of a story - a short, sweet, small taste of a tale. The only two characters we meet are the viewpoint character, a female dragonseeker (she prefers that term to "dragonslayer") and her village host, the mayor. Even in this short short format, the two characters are clearly drawn. The author skillfully reinforces the reader's general expectations about how dragons interact with the medieval world, as she introduces the facts specific to her take on the story. This was a delicious re-imagining of a classic situation that leaves the reader with a smile of satisfaction at the end.
